An individual who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offences against two children who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and one adult became sick at the facility in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.

However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was held in detention ahead of a further hearing on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, described the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he operated.

The man conducted a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She said the defendant had been able to explain this over a long period as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the situation, justifiably.

"They decided to examine in the individual's items."

The legal counsel stated items including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She stated Ruben continued to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she added.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the situation.

The prosecutor stated the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the family member notified the authorities once more.

She explained the man then played the "sweet game" in a area of five children.
